Patron Saint of the Lonely Heart
oil on panel
This subject was found in the National Geographic magazine; she is the last surviving tasmanian tiger as they are now believed to be extinct. (See the movie "The Hunter" with Willem Dafoe.) The dog on the left is Rainbow, a husky mix trained by Alys Culhane.

This is the first painting that I created using an oil wipe technique. I love this approach of using transparent glazes and wiping out highlights; each image achieves a great luminosity, soft edges and unique textures. Oil Wipe is the painting method that I use most frequently.
